Getting you the mortgage you deserve

Welcome Home Card

It’s not often I will advise my clients to add another credit card to their wallet, so why write about credit cards?

First, let me start by saying, that it's important to handle credit responsibly and I don't believe in collecting credit cards, just for the sake of having numerous credit cards available to you. Use your credit responsibly, it is key to many things in life.

Credit cards are somewhat necessary to establish good credit. When reviewing your credit most lenders look for a strong credit score and established credit. This means at least 2 trade lines (credit card, line of credit, loan, etc.) open for at least 2 years with at least a $2,000 limit on each. Simply put this is the basics for maintaining good credit.

I suggest you choose your credit card carefully and always read the fine print, pay off the balance in full each month if possible to avoid interst. Personally, I use three credit cards in my everyday life.

TD First Class Visa Infinite, this card has a great reward program, and I mainly use this to benefit from the travel points. I like to travel, and this card will often times get me a 3rd night stay at a hotel for free. I am also able to redeem points for free stays. There is a yearly fee for this card and I use it mainly for business.

Capital One Aspire Travel World Elite MasterCard, as you can see a theme here, I like to travel and so this card offers 2 reward miles for every $1 spent and so I can quickly pay for my flights, etc. with this card. There is no annual fee with this card.

Welcome Home - Mortgage Intelligence Cash Back MasterCard, the new card in my wallet. I received 5% cash back on everything I purchased at a home improvement store (for the first 100 days), I also get 2% cash back on groceries and 1% cash back on all purchases. This card has no annual fee.

If you are thinking of renovating your home, this is the card for you. Home renovations can add up, so why not save yourself some money and take advantage of the cash back. If you are currently in the middle of a mortgage application, you will most likely be pre-qualified and so this will avoid additional credit pulls.

It’s the best cash back card in Canada for homeowners!
